Financing

Development, operation, and sustainability of the crisis response system depends on sufficient funding. Nevada currently funds the crisis response system through a combination of sources: a surcharge on telecommunication lines; government grants and earmarks from federal, state, and local sources; health insurance reimbursements; and targeted local investments by foundations, businesses, and other public support.

Telecommunications Surcharge

Under Nevada law, a $0.35 surcharge is collected each month on all phone numbers that have a Nevada area code. This funding can only be used to support crisis services in the state and must support the administration of Nevada 988.
